FAQ’s

What are your beliefs?

Please read our doctrinal statement.

Who are you affiliated with?

We are affiliated with the Puget Sound Baptist Association (Southern Baptist) and Converge NW (Baptist General Conference). We are supported by Seattle Church Planting and Northshore Baptist Church in Bothell, WA.

Why are you called Paradox?

We are called Paradox because of John 5:24, “Truly, Truly, I say to you, he who hears My word and believes Him who sent Me, has eternal life, and does not come into judgement, but has passed out of death into life.”  All Christians have died and then are raised to new life.  It is this glorious paradox of death to life that we as a church desire to see.  This paradox is our goal.

Where are you located?

Our public gatherings are located in the Grand Illusion Cinema at 1403 NE 50th Street, Seattle WA 98105.  The building is located on the SE corner of 50th and University Way NE (The Ave) in the heart of the U-District. The building is accessible from 50th street. For directions to our worship location click here.

Currently we have several locations when we meet in missional communities. We do not have any central offices, but most meetings take place in and around the University District in Seattle.

What is your corporate worship experience like?

We typically sing two songs and then hear from God’s word through preaching and teaching. Following the sermon we respond to what God has done in our hearts. We respond in two primary ways: 1) taking Communion together remembering the shed blood and pierced body of Christ and 2) worshiping Jesus through song.

We mostly sing hymns during our corporate worship. The reason for this is because hymns were originally written to teach people theology that did not have access to costly books and educations, therefore they are excellent ways to teach deep and meaningful theology. Furthermore, we love that many of the hymns we sing have been sung for many years (some of them 100+ years) in the Church. As our body grows it is our hope and desire to continue to sing hymns, but to contextualize them for our culture in addition to writing and composing our own original worship songs.

The preaching is commonly book-by-book and verse-by-verse. There are times when we employ short topical sermon series to address special needs or topics within our body and/or to bridge the gap between major book studies. We believe the point of all preaching is first and foremost to bring glory to God and to reveal the relevance of the gospel (as opposed to making the gospel relevant). We always call our people to response after a sermon.
